The midweek review.....

......does not make for pretty reading, but given the prices we are sometimes playing at clearly poor runs are inevitable. We started with 9 bets. one was a 'draw no bet' which finished as a draw so we can discard that one. Of the remaining 8 only 1 won, leaving us with a midweek loss of £54 and the following overall position.

Starting bank £400
Current bank £393
Total staked £272
Overall loss £7
Return on investment  Minus 2.6%

The weekend bets will be up shortly and there are some more big priced ones included, so it's quite possible the results could be similar. Please bear this in mind and dont overstake.

Up to date results

So, trying to keep on top of the results, we had 10 bets at the weekend.  Two of these were 'draw no bets' which finished as draws so the best thing to do is to discount these, which leaves us with 8 bets at £9 each. We had 3 winners which just wasn't quite enough to turn a profit on the weekend, leaving us as it did with a £4 loss.

Up to date figures ( All  from the new bank which started on 31st March)
Starting bank £400
Current bank £447
Growth In Bank 11.75%
Total staked £200
Profit £47
Return On Investment  23.5%
11 winners from 24 bets

Midweek bets

Hi and hope everyone had a nice Easter.

I've looked at the fixtures but none of the matches which qualify for bets are being played today, so I'll be back tonightwith the bets if possible; if not it will be tomorrow morning.

Saturday 7 April 2012

Late bet for Liverpool match this afternoon

The match between Liverpool and Aston Villa this afternoon qualifies as a bet in the BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE market; best price is in the region of 2.03 after commission.

That makes 10 bets altogether at £9 each. Apologies for missing this one off originally  and good luck if following.

Friday 6 April 2012

Bets For Friday - Sunday

HOMES (Draw No Bet) A C Ajaccio 2.15, Cagliari 3.0, Lecce 3.14

AWAYS Tottenham 2.3, Everton 2.5, Werder Bremen 2.5

AWAYS (Draw No Bet) Newcastle 2.2

OVER 2.5 GOALS B M Gladbach 1.99

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE  B M Gladbach 1.97

And that's it. Just 9 bets passing all the filters this weekend and at the current stake of £9 each that's £81 altogether. I'll be back on Sunday night if time permits or Monday morning if it doesn't as there's a fresh round of  Premier league matches starting on Monday.

Up to date results

As promised in a reply to a recent comment I am going to try to update my results after each round  - and it's always easier to do that when you've just had some good results, so here goes.

Firstly,  anyone who's waded through my post of 29th March will know that I'm dropping draws and under 2.5 goals from my portfolio and specialising in future in the Outright Results, Over 2.5 goals and Both Teams To Score markets only, and that I'm also taking the opportunity to start with a fresh bank of  £400 and a new staking system. Please read or re-read that post if you need refreshing on any details. The fresh bank isn't an attempt to hide losses, because we didn't make any. As you will see from the 29th March post, the old system showed an overall profit of £168.50; it's just that the draws and under 2.5 bets simply weren't contributing  and were in fact dragging some otherwise very decent profits down to some very ordinary levels.

Anyway, that's the last time we'll mention the old bank and the old profits. Look at the last post and you'll find we started the last weekend in March with a fresh £400 bank and had 16 bets at £8 each, totalling £128. Of these 16 bets, 8 won - returning a total of £219 which equates to a profit of £51.Thas means that the bank now totals £451 and if we divide this by 50 we get £9 which becomes the new stake.

I'll be posting the bets for Friday - Sunday on Friday morning.

Friday 30 March 2012

Weekend bets from the new bank

Please read my post from earlier today if following these bets.

HOMES Newcastle 2.26, Augsburg 2.1, Werder Bremen 2.15, Racing Santander 2.25

HOMES (DRAW NO BET) Nancy 3.07 W+£16

AWAYS (DRAW NO BET) Bolton 2.29, Freiberg 4.04, Lazio 2.1, Chievo 4.14, Real Zaragoza 2.625

OVER 2.5 GOALS Kaiserslautern 2.1, Racing Santander 2.25, Real Sociedad 2.1

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE Kaiserslautern 1.83, Racing Santander 2.0, Real Sociedad 1.73

If you're wondering about some of the odd-looking prices, some of them have been taken with bookies, but on others I've taken a price with Betfair or left an asking price in the middle of what's currently available - I've also knocked 5% off the Betfair ones to allow for commission. Results will be reported in any case on the basis of the actual net returns obtained.

16 bets at £8  = £128 staked.

Profit and loss blogs and the way forward for me

I concede that profit and loss blogs are mainly largely of interest solely to the people that write them. When this blog started out it wasn't intended to be solely profit and loss but that's the way it's turning out. I plead time - or the lack thereof. Growing up I seemed to have plenty of it. I had all sorts of ideas and seemingly plenty of time to choose whether to pursue them or no. Days and weeks seemed to drag on . I had holidays once or twice a year and at the end of the August holiday I used to stare at the sea and the thought  that I wouldn't be back there again for almost a year made me feel down - I thought the time would never go by.

..............But all that was over 30 years ago. I got married, had two great daughters, both of whom are still at home, and the weeks and months now fly by. Five minutes ago it was Christmas; next week it's Easter, and we've not even had time to think about holidays this year yet. Some things haven't changed; I'll never get used to Monday mornings, but no sooner is it Monday than it's Wednesday again and the next weekend hoves into view. I  prefer it like this if I'm honest but my point is it leaves me no time to write a blog which may be of more than passing  interest to other people. I envy the people that either do have that time, or manage to find it from somewhere, but for me it's proved impossible. In any case, as I've said before, I've  made a profit in each of the two previous seasons (I do know that, as I have a handwritten record of each and every bet), but without going back over an awful lot of records I can't say exactly how much from each type of bet and that was my main reason for blogging this season as it's forced me to keep separate detailed records of each and every type of bet. Stakes have been small, generally between £6 and £10, but that's because this blog represents only a proportion of my total betting. The general question for me was could I publish my bets in advance and show a profit. Well as it happens yes I can. A net profit after commission of £168.50 on £4783.50 staked represents a grand old return on investment of 3.5%. Not very much you might say - and you'd be right! But wait: these totals include my draw bets and those matches where I've bet on the draw have proved very unprofitable since Christmas; overall this season the roi for them is in negative territory to the tune of  nearly 26%.Curiously enough those bets on which  I've also gone for under 2.5 goals have shown a slight (and I mean slight) profit; just £3.50 on £711 staked. I say curiously because the matches on which I've gone for under 2.5 are selected only from those which I've already bet on as being draws. In other words I'm finding enough low scoring matches (just about) which is what you need when looking for draws, but simply not enough of them are translating to draws. Disappointing, because when I started the blog it was draws in which I intended to specialise, but, let's face it,the draws  are going to need a couple of really decent runs to make any  inroads into the losses, whereas I would prefer to cut these losses and play to my strengths.

My strengths, it seems, are those matches where we are trying to find goals or predict one team scoring more than the other and Those bets where I have either gone for home or away, or over 2.5 goals or both teams to score are showing a much much better return of 14.1% with a strike rate of almost 50% over a decent number of bets. The actual figures are 241 winning bets from 501 selections  and a profit after commission of £431 on £3046 staked. So at this point I intend to start afresh using only these 4 types of bet. As stated earlier, the total profit so far including the draws has been £168.50, so we are not hiding a loss by starting afresh, merely trying to maximise the bank by betting in those areas in which we are strong. Now if you're betting on football' this stage of the season isn't generally considered to be the best time to start. A lot of professionals reduce their betting after Easter because the promotion and relegation issues start to get sorted out and more and more teams are deemed to have 'nothing to play for' as the days go by. I'm not sure that argument holds up as presumably the bookies too have problems when pricing up these matches; anyway, we shall see. On past performance I'm hoping for an overall strike rate of at least 40%, which in theory means that we can expect at least one losing run of 14 in a sequence  of 1000 bets. Should two of these come close togethe, hopefully the worse case scenario would be a run of 28 losers. For this reason I'm splitting my £400 starting bank into 50 x £8 bets initially. As the bank (hopefully) rises I'll divide the new figure by 50 (to the nearest 50 pence and that will become the new minimum stake. I don't intend to reduce the stake unless I hit a real disaster, as I've already made allowance for disaster in the original staking!

Please be very careful if following and don't overstake -  especially at this end of the season - you can see I don't risk much myself. The first bets will be up later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Weekend bets and latest review

A small loss recently which still leaves the total profit at £224.50 and an roi of 5.4% over 694 bets. Some very long longshots in the AWAYS( DRAW NO BET) section this weekend, but all are there because they meet certain criteria and we only need one of them to win to show a reasonable profit - though of course that's not the same as saying that one of them will............

Friday 24 February 2012

Weekend bets

Disappointing midweek and we lost £31. Scaling back on stakes this weekend as I have exposure elsewhere and don't wan't to risk exposing too high a percentage of the bank at one time, but before we get round to that here are the bets.

Anyway, as I said, I have exposure in other sports betting this weekend and am reluctant to expose too much of my bank at once, so the stake for me is just £4 on each of the above 30 bets, which makes £120 altogether. Good luck if following.

Review of last week plus bets for Tuesday - Thursday

Last Monday - Thursday was near enough break even but Friday kicked off the weekend very nicely with 2 winners from 2, including Inter Milan going down again -  the second tine in 5 days we had successfully opposed their long odds on price. Saturday and Sunday added a bit more profit and we now stand at a net  profit of £259.50 for the season from  £3994.50 staked; an roi of 6.5%.

Let's hope the following midweek bets won't detract from the profits - February has been a good month so far.

Tonight's bet and a review of the weekend

There is a bet tonight but we'll get to that in a minute. I'd like to mention the weekend's results just now because they were good and part of the reason they were good was because Inter Milan were beaten at home  by Novara. Inter were priced up at long odds on because they were near the top of the legaue and were playing host to Novara who were rooted firmly to the bottom.Whilst Inter might have won the match 70 times out of 100, the prices just didn't reflect the fact that they had conceded 4 in each of their previous 2 outings. The recommended bet was Novara with the safeguard of stake refunded if the match finished drawn and I got odds of nearly 11-1 after commission on that basis. As long as the majority of gamblers continue to only take note of league positions there will be value available.

On to tonight's bet: SOUTHEND are a bet away at Gillingham. I have staked £9 and the best odds currently available are 2.87. Normally Monday night matches would have been included with last weekend's bets but at the time Gillingham were scheduled to play on Saturday as well, though in the event the match was postponed.

If anyone's interested in the current state of play, so far this season we have had 599 bets (269 have won) and staked a total of £3496.50. Profit is £188.50 which represents an roi of 5.4%.

Back tomorrow with the midweek bets.

Friday 10 February 2012

Weekend bets including one tonight again

First of all. tonight's bet: ROTHERHAM are playing away at Southend  - or at least the fixture's still on as I'm writing this - and they are a bet for me in the AWAYS at 4.3 and also in BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE at 1.8.

Right - very busy again - I manage my time worse than Capello managed England - so straight on with the bets:

HOMES  Bolton 2.05, Everton 2.4, Bristol Rovers 2.25, Burton 2.75, Brest 2.0, B M Gladbach, 2.43, Cagliari 2.2, Catania 2.25, Real Betis 2.9

OVER 2.5 GOALS Blackburn 1.95, Peterborough 1.91, Hereford 2.2

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE  Blackburn 1.73, Peterborough 1.75,  Rotherham 1.8, Hereford 2.0

38 bets and again I've bet them all - £7.50 on each - so the total stake is £285. Good luck if following.

Tuesday 7 February 2012

Bet tonight

A good weekend which has seen us back in overall profit; meanwhile, just one bet of interest to me in the midweek fixtures and it takes place tonight:

Bournemouth v Exeter is both a draw for me at 3.9 and also a bet in the under 2.5 goals market at 1.91.

I have staked £ 7.50 on each bet; £15 altogether. Good luck if following.

Friday 3 February 2012

Weekend bets including one for tonight

First things first -  there is a bet tonight. Nurenberg kick off at 7.30 and the match  is a bet for me in the DRAWS (4.0) and UNDER 2.5 (2.05) markets. Stake is £6 on each.

We are £18 down from a total of £3099 staked and would be in profit were it not for the continuing poor performance of the draws. The sooner this run comes to an end the better, especially as I like betting on the draw as  it's usually ignored by the majority of casual gamblers who prefer betting on a specific outcome,  so consequently is fairly priced. Also it's possible to envisage a draw in almost any match as almost every team is trying  ( with the exception of the odd Serie A team after Easter!) and whilst it's possibly true that some clubs travelling to Manchester have dismissed the possibility of all 3 points before they start, few of them make the journey tactically planning for a four nil defeat. In that famous FA Cup tie from 1970, the Watford Long John Silver Impersonators may have had sleepless nights at the thought of playing the Bournemouth Gynaecologists, but even they at least held out some hope of bringing them back to Treasure Island for a replay.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejTTJmJSHkk

One or two of those goals looked a bit offside to me, but sadly the result was never in doubt anyway once the referee had reminded the Impersonators that the tie was to be played over two legs.

The system originally produced rather a lot of bets this weekend, but  even as I am writing this they are falling like ninepins due to the weather, causing a lot of hasty editing. They include several big priced aways and whilst I've not been too successful in finding draws recently, it's odds on that when you're backing aways at 4 or 5-1 some will finish as draws. I am therefore keeping the draw on my side with these bigger price selections by introducing a separate category of draw no bet, which basically means that you back the away at reduced odds but get your stake refunded if the match finishes as a draw.

I have staked £7.50 on each; £15 altogether. Good luck if following.

Additional bets

When I posted this weekend's bets last night (see previous post) I was unable to access the information I needed for the French league, so it was my intention to omit the French bets this weekend. I have now managed to solve the problem , which has resulted in 4 extra bets so I  have edited the previous post to include these. I have asterisked the additional bets.

Thursday 26 January 2012

Bets for 27th - 29th January

An early post for this weekend - one of the reasons being that one of the bets (Chesterfield) plays on Friday night and another being that whilst placing the bets I noticed that a few of them were already shortening up.

So far this season we have staked £2889 and all but £2.50 of it has been returned. Of course this disguises how the individual categories are performing. Had you chosen just to bet the over 2.5 s and Both teams to score you would have been looking at a nice return of investment over the season of 12.2% after 226 bets, this is after deduction of commission. If instead you you had settled for just the home and away bets you would have staked £450 and had returned £436.50, a loss of just 3%. Finally, if you had settled for just the draws and the under 2.5 goals you may have been rather disappointed by a loss of 12.3%, particularly when you considered that up until 6 weeks ago the draws had been leading the portfolio

As Cassini has pointed out  poor runs are to be expected, as of course are old age, death and the return of Celebrity Big Brother - that doesn't make any of them more welcome when they arrive. For a while I have been concerned at the low number of homes and aways selected as opposed to the other types of bets. This has been due to me narrowing the selection parameters which I've used  in the previous two years (before starting this blog) in order to discard some of the more unlikely selections. Inevitably I  have discarded too many decent priced winners and profit, so from this weekend I am relaxing the parameters for these types of bets. I've not tinkered at all with the over 2.5s and Both Teams To Score as these are performing nicely both in returns of strike rate and roi. (cue a 100% failure for these types of bets this weekend).

Enough waffle and on with the bets, then really must get down to finishing off the tax return which must be filed next Tuesday or it's a £100 fine.

HOMES  Bristol Rovers 2.25, Accrington Stanley 2.5

WATSON None - just a little joke.

DRAWS Chesterfield 3.6, Exeter 3.6, Brest* 3.25, Rennes* 3.1, Real Madrid 16.0 (just a little word about this one - once the parameters have been determined the system automatically throws up  the bets - there is no further input from me- and occasionally it picks one which you would have preferred it not to have done; as you can see from the odds it appears to have very little chance. I still bet them all  (the only thing that's certain in life is death) and to level stakes, but always with stakes which I can afford to lose.

AWAYS Aldershot 3.25, Parma 3.2, Sevilla 3.6

Tonight's bets

A profit of £21 at the weekend leaves us back in overall profit for the season, if only just, i.e. plus £9.50

2 bets for tonight, both in division 2

DRAW Torquay 4.2

I have staked £6 on each. Good luck if following.

Bets for 21st and 22nd January

A small profit last week which leaves us £11.50 down on the total £2577 staked throughout the season. Those figures disguise  a very poor run by the Draws section , which has gone from being the star of the portfolio up to about a month ago to the Rogue Trader, attempting to bring down the portfolio single handed. A run of just 2 draws in the last 34 has seen  my agent  fending off approaches from Lay The Draw. On the other hand, Both Teams to Score has a season strike rate of 63% and a return on investment of 16.1%.

This weekend's bets.....

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE Bury 1.82, Bradford 1.8, Palermo 1.83,  Udinese 2.2

Bets for 14th - 15th Jan and review of Christmas/New Year period

Now that the dust has settled from the holiday bets we are £21.50 down over the whole of the season from £2577 staked. Within that small loss obviously some categories are obviously doing better than others. Star of the show is the  'Both teams to score' section which is well in profit. On the other hand the 'under 2.5 ' section has not been in profit all season (the only section not to have been at one stage or another). The 'draws' section, which until recently was sharing top billing, has now been afflicted by a run of just 2 in the last 26, all of which leads me to believe that there may just be more goals around generally just now. I do remember watching Sky Sports afternoon football show (think it was the day after New Year's Day) and from a full English and Scottish programme of 46 matches there wasn't one nil nil scoreline and that was with about ten minutes still to go. Anyway, on to this weekend's bets.

My bets for 7th and 8th January

In the middle.......

........or hopefully at the end of a poor run which has seen overall profit for the season fall to £5.50. That nevertheless covers 437 straight bets without any trading and has also been all at virtually level stakes. If I can more than break even over level stakes with this number of bets I should be able to improve profits with some sort of a staking plan incorporating partial loss recovery, as opposed to attempting total loss recovery which is of course the quickest way to the poorhouse other than giving Mrs Pullover money to go shopping with.

I don't intend to go into details regarding the staking plan but as this blog is a record of my bets I will list the current stakes against each set of bets so everybody can see how much is going where. Stakes for any one bet will be between £4 and £16, though I doubt if the upper limits will need to be approached.

For this set of bets all stakes are £4, but for future sets differing categories will have different stake levels, depending on results. Anyway, on with the bets for Monday and Tuesday; prices given where bets already placed.
